Out in the crater has been set up a range that is reminiscent of a pre-industrial archery range. A number of large circular targets have been set up each with the tell-tale glow of an ion-shield surrounding them. Attached to the front of the target are a number of plates made of a variety of materials from simple plastics all the way to durasteel, each coloured as part of a gradient from blue to red to indicate the hardness of the target. At medium range a number of crates have been set up, each of which has a rifle sitting on it as if waiting for a wielder.

System:

This event is about who can score the most points in a combination of accuracy and damage. Each participant uses a stock V12 Cobra [2d6+1 damage; rate 2; +4 AT and damage per round from aiming, max +12] and fires at a target made of a matiral of their choice. Each material has an increasingly high AV and gives a greater number of points for a successful hit.

In order to score a points it is necessary to roll damage at least equal to the AV of the material you are aiming for. No points are scored for failing to hit the target or for failing to overcome the target’s AV. Each target is worth a number of points equal to its AV. The targets are clearly labelled and increase in strength going up in multiples of 2 from AV2 to AV 20 (AV2, AV4, AV6, etc.) as well as a single durasteel plate in the centre of the target with AV30. There are three of each target, apart from the durasteel one, and each target can only be destroyed once.

Each participant has a single clip of ammo (15 shots) and no more than 10 rounds in which to amass as many points as possible. To play first select a target AV, then roll to hit. If you hit roll damage and if your damage is at least the AV of the target then it is destroyed and you earn the target’s AV in points. As there are only 3 of each target you will be unable to continue to fire at the same AV level for the whole event. To make things more interesting each player will first have to eliminate the 50 point shield that surrounds their collection of targets, although this only needs to be removed once per player.

Darya felt confident in this one, it being her specialty, and she smiled under her spacesuit as she hoisted the gun in her hands. Her shield assessor flickered, indicating weak spots, and she smiled as she fired her first three shots. [AT 21, -4 vital shot, new AT 17, rolled 11, 3, 12, doing 17 damage each.] The shield flickered and dropped, and she began to consider her next move.

Concentrating, she unleashed her next shot at an AV 16 target, trying to find the best place to strike for maximum damage, and was rewarded by a spray of metal as the target lost structural integrity. [-9 vital shot, AT 12, rolled 8, total damage = 20]

Four shots were fired already, and she still had a while to go, so she spent the next round taking careful aim at the twenty point targets, before firing again. [AT 25, -9 vital shot, new AT 16, rolled a 9, rolling 2D6+14 damage, rolled 6, 20 damage, target breaks.] The pieces had yet to hit the ground when she moved to the next target, another 16 AV one, and fired again. [AT 12, rolled a 9, damage=2D6+10=16 exactly, target breaks]

(Score after first four rounds: 16+20+16=52. 9 bullets remaining, 6 rounds left.)

Parvati stepped up for this, she swallowed nervously. How bad could it be? the targets weren't moving and it wasn't like there was anyone she could hit by accident... not like last time.

She took the rifle gingerly, tried to copy Darya's confident stance and fired. (AT: 8 [untrained] rolled 12, 16 failed both) Promptly falling over as she wasn't expecting the recoil, certainly not in the low gravity.

Standing back up she dusts herself off and this time stands firmer and focuses before firing [1 round aiming] (AT: 12 [untrained] rolled: 11, 14 (crit fail) damage: 17 [shield remaing 33]) She fires once into the centre of the shield and then a strange jiggling before the shot goes wild.

Parvati looks at the rifle carefully but shoulders it once more and takes one more shot (AT: 8 [untrained] rolled: 12, 16 (crit fail) failed both) And this time the first shot goes wild and the Next bullet doesn't emerge, at which point she very carefully puts it down and asks someone to check it.
