Week 22- Mind over Body.

Post  Parvati Comoros Sharma on Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:21 pm

It was still early but Parvati was fussing. She was trying to make sure the area was as close to the old rooms where she had been taught as possible. Not that was easy. Here the walls were not stone nor was the only light provided by the sun blazing down outside. But she'd done her best. The corner of the living area that she had secured had been strewn with cushions and she had brought out both the figures from her alter, a dark skinned dancer in a circle, a blue faced Lord bearing a lotus blossum in one hand, a sword in the other and the other two empty and a bronze cast monkey faced figure bearing two smaller figures on his arms.

She had also brought out the incense and had it prepared. All that awaited now was her student. Parvati gulped, she'd never really taught anyone before and if she had to admit it the enigmatic Ms. Pinkie scared her more than a little. She was the only one of her housemates that she had not gone on a mission with and after some of what she had seen, like the casual carrying of Ace's Cyberframe she was at the point of listening to pretty much all of the rumours and hearsay that had circulated about Pinkie. Which did nothing to help her confidence. Taking a deep breath she ran through some of the meditation techniques to help calm her nerves.

*Pinkie walked into the living area, she had endeavoured not to be late, she knew this would be at least as intensive as her training with Sosie and Ace had been, and Pinkie had not built her mind up in some time. Pinkie's mind had grasped a few more powers since joining Oracle, but she was only confident with one of them and had not tested its sharpness yet. I might soon get the chance, whether I want to or not. It had taken a significant amount of her resolve, but Pinkie had managed to leave the gauntlet behind, she was not expecting Parvati to attack her, or rather she had no evidence that her new house mate would. For much the same reason the gold circlet was still ensconced around Pinkie's head and plugged in her at the back. While Parvati had not seen her often she had never seen Pinkie without it. Pinkie walked forward in the certainty that she would not measure up to any Telepath of Comoros yet Parvati worried her for other reasons. The area Parvati had set up only intensified the anticipation Pinkie felt. She felt that extremes were about to meet and the shrine that Parvati had made for their training only emphasised their differences. And now I am glad I did not bring the psi games. A box full of small metallic spheres and puzzles would not have fitted here. Perhaps glad is not the right term. Pinkie approached Parvati taking care to dull the noise of her approach as much as she could, more out of habit than intent and cast a more careful eye over the figures in the shrine. For some reason she took an instant dislike to the four armed man and all but blanched at the sight of the monkey. Her last encounter with simians had not gone spectacularly well. Pinkie's eyes narrowed slightly as she turned to Parvati, uncomfortable under the greater telepaths gaze.*

Parvati.
..... So how do we make mind mend flesh?

Parvati smiled and motioned to her to sit. "Before we can grant mind mastery over the body, we must understand it." she says as she softly settles into her seat. "Every vein and artery, every nerve and bone and yes, even every cybernetic. Before one can control them one must understand them." Her voice was slightly odd as if she was reciting something from memory.

"I find it best to turn off any cybernetics that monitor your status and/ or health. At least to begin with. If you don't your mind will use them as a crutch and you won't be able to truly start to master your own body."

She pauses for a moment then looks to her statues then back to Pinkie "Once you can understand the body we can start to move on to seeing how we can affect it with the mind."

*Pinkie frowned as she sat, her understanding of the body had advanced recently. Where once she knew only the look of injuries and the on the move treatments for them she now had a working knowledge of medicine both agent and standard. Sosie had even said Pinkie had a natural talent for it, Perhaps it is that while I know to get the body back to how it is meant to be, and not how that works? Except you still use a medpack for that. Pinkie's expression cleared at the realisation she had no clue how to work with agent tissue without a medpack, well that wasn't quite true but in the short term..... Only for Pinkie's expression to cloud again at the mention of cybernetics. She doesn't have any idea, she hasn't realised I don't know anything about them. It was true that Pinkie had undergone extensive augmentation but aside from ensuring they were accepted by her body Pinkie knew very little about how they worked, only their applications. Pinkie looked aside as she acknowledged internally that she relied on her internal A.I. to manage her cybernetics, she had no idea how to herself. What Parvati said next made sense to Pinkie and she her face hardened at the thought of being handicapped. Pinkie briefly considered that this could be a trap, but here it would be more risk than it was worth to murder her and so she complied.

Pinkie closed her eyes, letting her feet and ears keep watch on Parvati for her and recalled to mind all the diagrams and biological processes of the cardiovascular system as she felt the beat of her heart and listened to her own breath. Remembered holographic images of a beating heart gave way to the all too real sight of a struggling heart exposed by plasma fire and pictures swirled in blood across the blank canvas of Pinkie's mind. Pinkie's fingers curled into fists as her heart beat faster and a stormy expression cracked across her face for a split second. Likewise memorised microscopic images of organ cells brought rise to remembrances of the very few times Pinkie had seen limbs hooked onto skewers and the smell of carnage, of humans torn apart in front of her. A slight smile crept up at the corners of Pinkie's lips. Vivid pink electricity crackled out of Pinkie's curled palms and swept across her body in the split second before it earthed into the floor. Her eye twitched as Pinkie uncurled her fingers and blinked up at Parvati.*

My apologies. I twitched.

Parvati tried not to start at the lightening but only managed in restricting her flinch to a small amount. "First thing to work on is your breathing..." she says sitting with her legs folded in the lotus position.

"Breath in to the count of five, then out to the count of five." she offers falling quickly into the slow calm rhythm herself. "Mastery of breath is to master the most core part of oneself. It is breath that gives life, that allows everything else to work." she says softly. "If you wish there are certain mantra's that can help with regulating the rhythm of the breathing.

She closed her own eyes, she had no fear of pinkie, or rather it should be said she had no specific fear of Pinkie, yes she was intimidated by the brusk agent but she was not specifically afraid.

*Pinkie took up the breathing routine, this particular one was new to her but controlling her breathing was not new to her in the least. Whether to mute it as much as possible or careful balance quiet breathing with the shear amount needed to continue phyiscal exertions, Pinkie new what she was doing with breath. The lack of an immediate motivator; the differnece between making and failing a kill, being riddled with bullets, or any number of other consquences made the breathing routine boring for Pinkie. Am I being dulled? The half shadow of doubt played on Pinkie's mind as she settled into the routine for the long run. Opening her eyes, Pinkie saw that Parvati had closed her own. Pinkie imagined she could feel the hum of Nikolai's capacitors cooling as she breathed in and out. Once a minute or so had passed by without any sign of Parvati opening her eyes Pinkie decided to prompt the former comoros agent and around her breathing spoke.*

So what..... would the second thing... be?

"once breath has been controlled then we can start to expand our minds over our bodies. The first step is to build the homunculous in the concious mind. Start by thinking of yourself form an image of yourself from the outside in. Feel the touch of the air on your skin, of where your flesh and your cybernetics touch, where your heart beats." She says softly without breaking her breathing routine or opening her eyes. Unlike Pinkie this was second nature to her, to sit, to meditate was something that she had been taught since her earliest days even before becoming a comoros agent, even before becoming a telepath. "trace each and every muscle and let them relax as you do so."

*Pinkie stared at Parvati in blank incomprehension. To begin with what the hell is a homunculus? I have fortunately never had the opportunity to look from within myself out so how.... No, stop. You have seen the images and you have memorised them. Alright, let us try this. Also that was not what she asked of you. Pinkie rolled her eyes at her own thoughts then closed her eyes in order to focus on the images behind her eyes.... she would still know if Parvati moved to attack her physically and if she attempted mental attack... then Pinkie hoped she would have time to respond. Pinkie focused on herself, building an image of her silhouette, divorced from the featureless, textures and colours that others would see when they looked at her and placed herself inside it. She focused on the sensation from her skin, the slightly warm air moved only by their breath, running slowly along her arm, her shoulder, her cannon-No! Pinkie refocused waiting until she could once again feel the air on her skin, this time she followed the sensation down to her wrist, along the length of her hand, touching the tip of an outreached claw--NO! You do not have that kind of claw! They are not even outstretched. Pinkie frowned and chewed on her lip for a moment. Pinkie re-focused once again, this time feeling the muscle beneath her skin settle back into a relaxed position and the air contacting her skin in tandem. Pinkie followed the flow of muscle, of air and of her blood up her neck, running over her face and the rictus expression of pure unmitigated fury surrounded by a corona of teeth so sharp and fire burning brightly along each and everyone of her hairs-

Pinkie slammed her open palm into the floor, frustration plain on her face. Pinkie could feel; the beat of her heart, faster now, the movement of her body plates, as they were pushed by her muscles, her spine straightening as she sat back upright, the usual alloy mixed and coated with anilgesium, and the skin of her hand realigning as it absorbed the worst of the blow. But Pinkie could not rid her eyes of the monster stained in fire and it remained despite the flood of light entering into her reopened eyes. She settled an expression of contempt slightly to the left of Parvati's head, though it was not her instructor she was attempting to stare down.*
