Should we try this system for plasma weapons?
Alternate Plasma Weapon vs. AV System
The idea of plasma pistols being able to damage cyberlins and tanks is a bit crazy, but possible due to the "Ignores all AV" rule. An alternate system has been proposed by MindX over on the Deniable Resources forum. Here is a copy paste of their suggestion.
Ranged plasma weapons: Plasma weapons ignore Armor Value equal to their maximum damage potential.
Example 1: The AMS Handheld Plasma Discharger does D10 damage and ignores 10 AV.
Example 2: The AMS PR88 Plasma Carbine does 2D8+1 damage and ignores 17 AV.
Example 3: The AMS PX5 Induced Heavy Plasma Inducer does 5D10+5 damage and ignores 55 AV.
Close Combat plasma weapons: Close Combat Plasma Weapons ignore one half of their maximum damage rather than a universal +4 as written in the Core Rules page 34.
Example 1: The Richenbacker Arclite Raptor Plasma Sword does D8 damage and ignores 4 AV.
Example 2: The Richenbacker Arclite Executioner Two Handed Sword does D12 damage and ignores 6 AV.
Would you all like to try this out, or is the idea of plasma pistols dropping APCs too much fun? I'll also be looking at Galvanic weapons in the future to see if they suffer a similar problem.

Re: Alternate Plasma Weapon vs. AV System
How would this work with the Bloodstorm? Would that ignore 36 AV, or 6 AV per dice?

Re: Alternate Plasma Weapon vs. AV System
I think I will make it 6AV per dice assigned to a target. If you hit 6 targets then it ignores 6 AV for each of them. If you hit a single target, then it will ignore 36AV.

Makes sense.

RE: Close combat weapons; these rules would make the Heavy duty version of the focused psi blade potenially the most armour ignoring and therefore dangerous melee weapon in the game?

Re: Alternate Plasma Weapon vs. AV System
Good spot. I will let this continue to ignore 4AV for simplicity's sake.
Re: Alternate Plasma Weapon vs. AV System
I have closed the poll now. There was a clear victory for the new system, so we will try it out until something goes horribly wrong with it.
Re: Alternate Plasma Weapon vs. AV System
with regard to plasmic assualt do the new rules apply? Simply because it says it ignores 10 points of AV and the req's mean it would ignore 60 points of armour.
