CHARACTERS: The BIO Loads (main cast)

Amanda LePlisa: The leader of the group, Amanda is the descendant of French refugees to England after the Minerva incident. She starts off over-confident and cocky, and distrustful of the other team members, but she matures as the series goes on and becomes a great leader of the team. A major turning point in her character is when she manages to remake contact with her family, only to have her mother attempt to send her back to Dr Lornsting, the scientist who initially kidnapped her, in return for money. The rest of the team rescue her, and she learns that she can trust them with her life. Her powers are the least combat orinated of the group, being based mainly around manipluation. She produces a chemical similar to Carnifax from specalist glands that she can control, as well as being able to produce a potent knock out gas from glands in her throat. She also has porous skin she can breathe through and emit the chemical from, and enhanced sensory organs.

Hanimoto Yuki: A shy, quiet girl before Lornsting got their hands on her. After the experimentation, the chemicals in her blood stream sent her through a long period of mental instability, fluctuating between introverted and quiet to angry and hot-blooded. During book 16, she was able to steal some chemicals from the raid on Lornsting's lab to counteract the rage. Yuki acts as the team's heavy, being based off of a polar bear and an ice fish. Her skin is very pale and almost transparent, and her hair is pure white. She has no red blood cells, instead having a form of anti-freeze running around her body. This, and the fact that she can grow hair on demand all over her body, means she is nearly impervious to cold. She's much stronger than an average human, and can cause her fingers to change into claws at will.

Marc Beriziky: A young man from the island of Madagascar, Marc was modified to be the perfect guard and sentinel. He has four arms, can change his skin colour to blend in with the surroundings, and has eyes that can focus on two different things at once, like a chameleon. He was made to stay still and keep quiet, which messes with his extroverted, friendly personality, particularly seeing as he is the member of the group with the most difficulty in blending in as a normal person due to his four arms. By the end of the books, he has become a hero for his part in the take down of ELDRITCH, and he becomes a major public figure.

Kaliska Lane: An american girl modified to be a spy and lone hunter. Her legs are reversed from normal humans, and her mouth is more forward on her head than usual to fit in her new jaws. She moves very quietly, due to behavioral modifications made. She tends to follow her modifications, often disappearing off alone to do something. She has a hero complex, and slowly, over the course of the series, decides she needs more power to protect her friends. This backfires when Dr Lornsting's succussor in ELDRITCH, Fanco, uses this to lure her in and trap her, and then the rest of the group. She escapes by modifying herself in his lab using cybernetics, before breaking out, rescuing the others, and killing him.

Fredrick Kassic: Born in Russia, Fredrick was modified to have lots of armour plates underneath his skin, as well as the power to create a form of acid from pours in his hand. Fredrick was the fan's least favorite character at first, being rather annoying and bratty about his families' wealth...until he discovered that his family's wealth came from them being two of the leader's of ELDRITCH. This caused him to spiral into self-doubt and he left the group for a while, returning five volumes late in book 40. Here it turned out that he had found some of ELDRITCHs other projects, which turned out to be a group of failed bio-modified humans with powers similar to Rachael's. He sacrifices himself to shield the rest of the team from his father's attack in the last volume, killing the man using his acid before he died.

Arc Summaries

Volumes 1-11: Introductions Arc. The first book opens with a mysterious figure releasing the five kids from their stasis they'd been kept in by Lornsting, and focuses mainly on their escape from the lab, as well as them trying to piece together what they now are. The next few books are introductory pieces for the various characters, as they struggle to survive, before a UIG officer, Officer Rankel, gets wind of them and acts as the villain for this part of the piece. Meanwhile, the kids sometimes run into strange creatures that their powers seem tailored to fight...

Volumes 12-27: The fight between Lornsting and the kids escalates, beginning with the kids finding a dying man who knows about them and their powers. He turns out to be Lornsting's lab assasitant, and he explains to them their powers, and how they were created using the BIO Line process, a series of modifications made to humans to give them new powers. They take the name BIO Loads, after a dark joke about what a load on them their powers actually are. The term was taken from the online fandom. After a series of battles, including rescuing Amanda after her mother sells her back to Lornsting, they manage to challenge the mad scientist directly and defeat him, but he escapes...only to run into the mysterious figure from the first book, who kills him, telling him that he can no longer run from ELDRITCH...
The lab is destroyed, and the five look through the rubble attempting the find a way of returning themselves to normal. They only find information on how to kill them.

Volumes 28-31: There was a year and a half long hiatus, with these poor quality books released occasionally. This was due to Harriet killing and taking over the life of her owner.

Volumes 32-40: Calight Arc Volume 32 is regarded as the best book in the series by many fans, being a spectular piece de resistance as harsh new rules are suddenly applied , making it even harder for the kids to survive. They have help from an unknown source however, as the organisation ELDRITCH make their move. It is revealed that Lornsting previously worked for them, but fled after it was found he was plotting to overthrow them as well. Meanwhile, the mysterious man, revealed to be known as Calight, begins to build up power in local politics, and strange new BIOs stalk the streets. At the end of the book, we see that Rankel has been promoted to Marshall off screen, and is once again in charge of BIO hunting. The rest of the arc is dedicated to stopping Calight as he takes over the city with a mixture of smooth talking, bribery and improved versions of Amanda's powers. He offers her the chance to join him...which she appears to accept, before ramming into him and throwing her off the side of the building. During this arc, Fredrick leaves the group, and returns, showing information: ELDRITCH have a lot more mind controllers, all over the world. Kaliska, worried about her percieved weakness in battle, makes a deal with a man called Fanco...

Volumes 41-58 The ELDRITCH Arc Rankall arrives and tells the kids that Fanco is working for ELDRITCH in Lornsting's old position. They go to rescue Kaliska and get caught and put into stasis, until she upgrades herself and escapes. Rankall explains that he can't protect them legally, but will do the best he can, until he is taken off the case, by orders of a UIG official who is also a leader of ELDRITCH. The official begins to hunt the kids down, until they retreat to Lornsting's old lab. Upon seeing the information they found at the end of the Lornsting arc, they realise that they can create a signal that will act as a selective D-Shift, killing only those who have been modified to have the mind control ablities, which includes Amanda. She insists on doing it, but to create the signal they have to attack the ELDRITCH base. They storm through most of the troops, only to discover that the leaders have undergone their own modification. Fredrick dies in battle, and Rankall is nearly killed, but Amanda gets to the top control room and begins setting up the signal. It goes off, and ELDRITCH is wiped out...but when they get to the room, Amanda has disappeared. She is found in Fanco's old labs, having shut herself in a stasis pod before the signal was fully activated. The slower brain activity allowed her to survive the signal, and she wakes up when they remove her. Rankall explains what happened to the UIG, and the kids are all pardoned and allowed to live their lives...on condition that they live on Miller-Uray. Amanda, Yuki and Kaliska begin helping with research projects to better the world, while Marc becomes an administrator for the astroid. It ends ambigously, with the four standing over a stone in memory of Fredrick and wondering what will happen to them next, as the Earth, far above them, turns on, and someone is heard approaching them...
