Week 13, Tuesday Noon: Slithering

Post  Ida Salcedo on Sat Apr 07, 2012 9:58 pm

Free from the smiling one's grasp at last, DJ Scissorz investigated his new territory with as much stealth and grace as a 3-foot bright orange cyberpython could. He slid around the large structure, looking for a good place to lurk in wait of prey. He knew the Light Above would arrive here soon, and he wanted to make sure he left a good second impression through mastery of this new place.

Bell, from her bed, opened her glowing eyes. Rico struggling with the mantis snake probably fit the human definition of comedy, especially when it bit his nose, but Bell didn't laugh. Her large eyes followed the orange thing, and then moved down to the cyberlynx napping in her lap. Her fingers gently pet Smallest tufted ears to wake her, so they both could watch the new inhabitant of their domain.

Dusty, meanwhile, had finished his new fort. The crate from the Multymeat Delivery box had been upturned, an egg shaped hole inexpertly cut with some sort of laser implement. The box seemed slightly unstable, the tape that had been used to hold it in a rigid place now gone, so it wobbled slightly. The cushions had been replaced on the couch, except for a few pillows which apparently weighted down and decorated his new house. He had spent a lot of time inside, though it wasn't obvious on what... Though at one point, he did drag a data pad out and slide it under Darya's door. Homework.

He left now to do a perimeter check, and paused two feet from his door. He took a tiny spidery step back as something orange stalked across the floor. In a voice slightly higher than normal, Dusty asked the world at large, "What is THAT thing??"

DJ Scissorz noticed the large white eggly thing, and slithered up to it curiously. He hissed at it, and when it reacted with a lot more action than he expected, DJ Scissorz began to panic. It must be dangerous! With lightning-fast reflexes (for a given value of lightning-fast), he curled up into a ball, safe from any threat the eggly thing might pose. Soon the Light Above would arrive and bring salvation, but he was sure he'd be fine for now.

Dusty regarded at the knotted orange tangle cautiously. Gun out, he took a few tentative steps forward, then back. His green 'eye' glowed brightly, lids closing as he looked around conspiratorially. Surely this was a Smallest plot! His tiny metal claws stroked the ball in his carapace possessively. He took a few more steps forward. Stop. One step. Stop. Tiny metal feet tapped on the cement. Two steps. Stop. He looked around, body twisting on the spot, paranoid glaring in every corner. Step. Stop. Stare. Staaaaare step.

He stopped about six inches away. Eye opening wide, Dusty extended a single leg and poked the snake, GASPED, and took four hurried steps backward.

DJ Scissorz rolled back slightly. As his head was in the centre of the ball for defence, he didn't know quite what the eggly thing had done, but clearly his guard was impregnable! The Light Above was sure to be proud of him for withstanding the eggly thing's assault.

Dusty tilted his 'head' forward, curiously. So, it hadn't attacked him. He gave a hurried look back to his fort, wondering if this was meant to be a cunning distraction before his enemy collapsed his secure location. No, no, it was safe. So what was this?

Dusty extended another thin leg and poked the ball, exploring. It appeared to be a solid shape in orange made from looped coils of cybernetic material. It had moved, and then stopped. A sudden thought occurred to Dusty. Could it be alive, and thus worthy of protecting? It certainly hadn't harmed him or his family or his home. Another important question, where were the knees?

The small turret gave the ball another nudge, trying to push it over. He watched it, poking it a few times.

This time, the ball rolled a bit further. DJ Scissorz began to wonder if the eggly thing's futile attacks might push him so far away that he'd end up in a good hiding place. Maybe he didn't even need to roll up at all - the eggly thing didn't seem very dangerous after all. But what if it was just warming up? He decided to wait a little longer and see what it did.

Okay, so, it rolled, and also moved into itself tighter. It was probably alive. He poked it one more time, looking at the orange scales. Hm. If it was alive, it could probably speak. In a soft childlike whisper, he asked, "Hello? Is someone in there? Can you hear me?"

Dusty rolled the ball a little more, kicking it with his tiny spidery legs. "Are you alive? Where are your knees?"

The eggly thing spoke! It did not seem to be dangerous after all. DJ Scissorz uncurled himself to look at it properly. It had crawly legs and a bright light, but it was definitely eggly. He looked at it for a moment, then curled around it tightly. It felt nice and warm, and since it wasn't dangerous, he could wait here comfortably and watch for food.

"Oh no, oh why. Why. No. Thing. Leave. Get off." Dusty wobbled slightly, freeing two of his legs and prodding the snake. He poked once, twice, and fell over a little bit. The only thing that stopped him from a face plant was freeing another leg. Okay, okay, five more legs to go. "A trap! A trap to slow me and inhibit my movement! Curse!"

Clawing his way back to his fort and unable to aim his gun directly down, Dusty make needy noises, swearing and cursing at the clingy disc jockey.

The eggly thing kept on moving, as was shaking quite uncomfortably. Maybe it was something important! Was he in trouble? DJ Scissorz let go of the eggly thing and zoomed into the corner of the box, hiding to see if someone was about to come and take him away from it. Curiously, he hissed at the eggly thing.

Now it was in his fort. And.. and making noise? What did 'ssss' mean? Was it trying to talk? He backed into the opposite corner and stared. His gun was drawn, but if this thing was alive.. Well, he couldn't shoot it unless it attacked. That would be wrong. Self defence was an acceptable reason to use violence, though the little security turret preferred not to. "What are you? What do you want?" Dusty gave the little creature a curious look. "What are you trying to say?"

At this point, Rico walked over. "Are you talking to the snake, Dusty? He can't reply to you - animals can't speak." Upon hearing Rico's voice, DJ Scissorz coiled up slightly and hissed at the entrance to the fort.

Dusty peeked out of laser precision cut (aka poorly, with singed uneven edges), ducking his egg through the hole. He looked up at Rico, and then focused on his knees. The only people who ever picked him up were Mom and Darya, so he wasn't quite sure with the replicant looked like, though he was slightly curious. The little turret hoped to have a lot of experience with a male muse body, someday. Then the turret turned back to the snake, which obviously hated Rico. Hm.

He turned back to Rico, thoughtful. After a few seconds, he gasped a little, moving out of his fort at some speed. "An animal? Like Smallest?! Is it in league with her??" He hid behind Rico, looking at the orange snake through the well-dressed legs of the oft bossed around replicant.

DJ Scissorz watched as the eggly thing scuttled about, and hissed suspiciously at the smiling one. He was free at last, and nobody was going to restrain him again! Was the eggly thing was going to confront the smiling one? It seemed that he had misjudged it after all.

Rico chuckled at Dusty's reaction. "He's only just arrived here, he hasn't met Smallest yet. You should be nice to him, he's quite gentle really."

Dusty pushed through Rico's legs, squeezing himself through just hard enough to wobble the replicant. The tiny little eggly thing was powerful. He looked up and sideways at Rico's knee. "So they are not working together to destroy my safe house? The lynx is a smart and dangerous foe; she may have tricked you. It did try to trip me."

The turret tapped his little legs on the ground, tap tap, thinking. He moved a little forward to examine the hissing snake. After a moment, he added in a less aggressive voice.. "What is it?"

Rico's cheerfulness didn't falter at all with the push from Dusty. "He's a cyberpython, designed to be a friendly pet. I can't imagine he'd want to destroy your safe house. His name is DJ Scissorz, and he belongs to Ms. Salcedo. He'll be living here from now on, so try to get along with him!"

Seeing the eggly thing move away from the smiling one slightly, DJ Scissorz was confident that it could be trusted. He flicked his tongue out in a friendly manner.

Dusty's tiny metal T-Rex arms pet the ball in his carapace protectively; an absent-minded motion... Which was a leeeeettle worrying, but surely it would be fine. He took a few steps closer to the snake, wiggling on his spider legs to mimic the pythons motions. "It is important to remember that the same could be said of our enemy." In the grim darkness of never ending battle, Rico was apparently assigned to the forces of light and good. "What is a python? How does he communicate? Why does Ida want him?"

Dusty moved even closer to the snake, lowering his body to the ground so he could get a closer look. He blinked.

"They're a type of snake... A sort of lizard with no arms or legs. He communicates with body language and by hissing at things - it might take you a while to learn to understand what he's trying to get across. As for why Ms. Salcedo wants him... Well, she said she had many pet snakes when she was a girl, so I suppose she has fond memories of them. Do you have any other questions?"

As Rico spoke, DJ Scissorz poked his head out to look at the eggly thing better. Now he could see it properly, the way it moved was quite funny.

With a soft skittering motion, the turret moved forward and looked at the snake. When it wasn't hissing, it was sort of.. approachable... Though he still didn't trust it. He reached out a leg and gently touched the snake on the top of the head in a gentle pettingy poke movement. There's only so much you can do with a spider leg.

Resting on the ground, he leaned back a little to get a view of Rico. "Yes, query. Why does it seem to hate you?"

"I'm not entirely sure," Rico said as he watched DJ Scissorz's eyes following the leg that poked him. "He seemed quite happy when Ms. Salcedo was handling him, but he grew irritated when she passed him off to me to bring him home. I'm sure he'll grow used to me with time." Meanwhile, DJ Scissorz waited, watching Dusty's legs as if expected to be gently poked again.

"Well, I like you, Rico. When I am big and strong like you, we should play together." Dusty sounded sincere if slightly preoccupied, and his eyes was once again fixed on the snake. He reached out and gave it another poke, this time sliding the leg down the snake's back.

"What does it eat?" He then tried to slide his leg under the snake, to roll or flip it.

"That sounds like a lovely idea!" Rico said in response. Surprisingly lightweight for his appearance, DJ Scissorz rolled right over and back onto his belly. In an attempt to mimic the eggly thing, he wrapped himself around it a little and tried in vain to pull it and roll it over.

"He can eat most types of meat, though he prefers things that taste like mouse."

"What does mouse taste like?" Dusty had never tasted anything, but his hunger for knowledge reigned supreme. The snake moved closer, and he stared at it.. Dusty, a good deal heavier than the turret, was unmoved by DJ's aggressive cuddles. However, Dusty did whine a little, getting to his feet, trying to shake off the snake. "Eeeh! What is he doing? What motivates this mad monster?"
