Week 90: Prodigal's Return - Page 2 Empty Re: Week 90: Prodigal's Return

Post  AmetsBasamortu Tue Apr 07, 2015 10:00 pm

Amets began furiously taking notes, her PDA stylus almost flickering as it danced around the touch screen keyboard, her mind desperately pulling up what she knew about Legacy. As Han reached the line "Exactly according to plan", one eyebrow rose incredulously. Even by Oracle standards, having a squad of Guan Yu suits after you was a fairly poor plan.

She glanced up and made eye contact with Carmen, holding it for a few seconds before going back to her notes. She was definitely interested in exactly what Han had been up to.

Fenris let out a brief chuckle, still keeping half an eye on the datapad. "Han, you need to come up with better plans! Or at least get some backup first. It's not like Oracle is good at stealing things or anything like that." Now that everyone was alive, and likely to stay that way, she was much more relaxed.

"Look, these assholes don't make mistakes or come out of the shadows unless they're provoked. It's all about making sure that they need you stopped. That's when you get to know exactly what they're capable." His face softened somewhat. "Besides, it's not like I stuck around to fight. I was in Shanghai, way too much collateral damage. Most of the squad weren't worth the time, I had them ditched in minutes. Ai-Jinn armour jocks got nothing on us, am I right?"

"Anyway, so with a few liberal application of rocket boots, I've got it down to just this one guy. And this asshole is a speedy fucker. I know that district of Shanghai cold, and he was matching me step for step at every turn. I managed to double back on them and get right in close, I'm talking point blank, barrels against the chest here, 4 shells straight to the heart and the asshole just laughed!"

"I'm not gonna lie, whatever that armour is made of I've gotta get my hands on a suit. And that's not even getting into the gun! Smaller then an Adderbite and he wiped out half a dumpster! So naturally, I went back to running, figured I could lose him in the underground, but the bastard kept steering me back into the crowds."

"Most of that section of the chase is a blur, I remember very clearly when the energy blast took out the fuel tanker though. That's when the Iolite showed up."

At this point, Carmen stopped her staring to pinch the bridge of her nose. "Okay, okay, what? You're talking the Ai Jinn Glitchtech brigade and they go full nuke on you and THEN the fucking UIG Iolite cruiser shows up? The fucking fuzziest of all coppy popo BASTARDS one top of the fucking Ai Jinn hammer squads? What the fuck, Han?" She sighed, removing her fingers from her face. She gave a little look to Amets before continuing. "Are you kidding? Are they kidding?" The last bit was again directed at her hacker friend, and she patted her pockets for a moment before sighing. Oh, she'd given her candy bar to Han. She frowned at him.

Fenris shrugged. "Is that any more far-fetched that Hugo being chased by a cruiser for not "stealing" his own car? Crazy stuff happens to us, it's part of the job. Especially when you are a "terrorist"." This last part was complete with air-quotes. "I'm more surprised about the crazy ass tech. That sounded like UIG bullshit right there!"

"Yeah, well watching them take an iolite cruisers fury for a full minute and not dying made me figure it was time to split. Had to head into a metro station. Wasn't pretty, let me tell you, the guy was carving up people left and right to get to me." Han's face lost some of its previously regained colour. "I got him back though. Finally came up with a big enough stick to hit him with."

Carmen watched, mouth agape, as Han told his story. Her reactions were a little dulled, but half a second after he stopped talking she said, "Oh!" She snapped her fingers, succeeding on the first try. She smiled at Han and then everyone. "It was a train! You hit him with a train!"

She looked around, radiating smugness at her ability to follow along. "Right?"

Han smirked. "The 16.02 bullet train to Beijing. See, the guy was thoroghly bullet proof. The ladder he was on? Not so much. I couldn't see the fuckers face, but the way he turned up to look at me, then at the train before he was smashed off down the line...oh, it was priceless, and if I can get the gun cam working again, I'll send you all the clip."

Fenris looked up from her datapad, also grinning a little. "So what your saying is you have some crazy powerful Guan Yu bastard still after you? Cause there's no way that train took him down, not if he pulled off what you said he did." She didn't sound overly worried, she was more just clarifying that this actually happened. "And yes, I do want a copy of that video."

Han shrugged. "Hadn't occurred to me at all. I absolutely do not have forces and allies in place to track where he drags his broken ass body for repair and regrouping, and in no way am expecting an update on the location of his home base in the next few days.

Han's face took on a hard edge. "If I'd just killed him, at most I'd have a corpse and some tech. Now I have a location."

Amets' face remained poker like, however her fingers were a blur on her phone's screen. There were obviously reports of an Iolite fighting a Guan Yu squad, that was something even the UIG and the Ai Jinn would have trouble shushing up, but neither side had made an official statement yet. Just as Han began sarcastically saying that he had already set up a way of tracking the suit user to his base, she had pulled up a bullet train map of the Ai Jinn territories and was about to begin attempting to track the user herself. She stopped when he finished his sentence, but kept the map and information saved for later anyway.

"So was that the end?" she asked instead, leaving unsaid the idea that Han may have possibly decided the evening wasn't quite active enough and had gone to challenge some Western Federation Urban Specialists for his warm down exercise.

Well, then there was a day and a half of hiking through the sewer lines in Shanghai in order to make sure I'd slipped detection, then stealing a ride that wouldn't attract too much attention on the way down...before it crapped out on the edge of Seoul and I had to make do with a half junked moped I acquired off a shady dude I once ran in a gang with. But you know, nothing exciting.

Fenris had just one question. "So when do we hit them?" She surprised herself by just how much she still needed to strike back at the Ai Jinn, and revealing their super secret super tech would do that quite nicely.

Han sighed. "My contacts aren't exactly the kind to work to a schedule. They'll get to me when they can get the information across without blowing their own covers.

"Till then, I've got a list of businesses, patterns and a load of conversations I recorded to go through. Willing to bet I've got more then just the one lead once I sort through this lot."

The stoned hacker looked from Han to Fenris, and immediately took a physical step back. She had no interest in watching snuff footage, and less in taking on some Guan Yu squaddies full of glitchtech badness. She shook her head and goggled at Amets, a complicated expression on her face.

Eventually, she mumbled, "I'm glad you escaped, Han."
