Week 90, Early: Alone Time Empty Week 90, Early: Alone Time

Post  SosieTerrehaute Sun Apr 05, 2015 11:34 pm

It was a quiet night, which made a nice change. Warm out, not that it mattered. Spring was coming back, and there was a minor festival of lights in a park below. Families with young kids, street vendors.. And maybe a little petty crime, but the masked figure wasn't really watching. His mind was elsewhere. With the lights below, the moon visible as a pale glow in the sky--and the generic light pollution--the shadows were merely a dark gray. The green eyes of the mask glowedslightly, as he appeared to watch the people below.

A short distance away, Fenris was also watching the people below. Or one man specifically. He was being very paranoid, keeping an eye out for tails, so she figured she'd follow him and see if he lead her anywhere interesting. The invisible woman was silently moving from rooftop to rooftop, until she ended up above a familiar figure. Looking back at her mark, she saw him hooking up with some woman, and she immediately lost interest. Affairs weren't particularly interesting, not unless someone important was involved.

Since that didn't go anywhere exciting, she decided to go and say hello. she dropped down behind the hero and sat down next to him without making a sound. (pass agility stealth by 20). "So, you found anything interesting yet?"

A non-agent wouldn't have noticed, but Fenris could see the fraction of a second hesitation. He looked over at her, and relaxed back into his brooding, crouched position. "There's a kid stealing phones, I think, but..." He waved a hand at her, and to the festival down there. His German was still flawless, lilting. "He could be one of those aggressive advertisers." He sighed. He wasn't bothered. His mind seemed to be elsewhere.

The Agent glanced at the vigilante, "So you're not going to sweep in an be all heroic?" Using her telemetric vision, she could see that the kid had just stolen a phone, but if her friend didn't care, then she had no reason to. "Or have you stepped up from petty crimes?" She definitely approved of that choice, that is, if he did actually make it.

"I'm.. less interested in the crimes of children." He smiled a little, but seemed somehow less like his peppy self. His voice was back to being boyish, less grizzled than before. "Besides, he seems to be targeting people who at least look rich. Look." The hero gestured with a gloved hand, as the boy stuck his hand into the pocket of the woman Fenris' prey had been meeting. He appeared to get something from the pocket, and he took a few steps back to join the queue at a fried bug stand. "It's been quiet tonight."

Fenris sighed, It bugged her that all these "moral champions" were so quick to forgive people who targeted those who had actually been successful in life, just because they were jealous of what someone else had achieved. "So what if she's rich? It's still stealing. You'll never earn your name if you're gonna be this apathetic." Looking at the unusually down Hero, the invisible Agent had a thought. "Or did you already earn it? Was it not the one you wanted?"

The hero looked over to Fenris and smiled crookedly, then went back to watching the people below. "Nothing yet. Nothing I've seen, anyway. Even Hero Spotter seems to be waiting for me to tell them my name. So..." He shrugged. As for the comments about all theft being equal, well, he hadn't been taught to agree. But he was used to seeing grey where everyone else saw black and white. He ignored it. "If you hear anything, let me know."

"Sure" There was pretty much no chance Fenris would hear anything, unless it was from this guy. Hell, she'd never heard or Hero Spotter before, and they seemed to be important in the masked vigilante circles. But that didn't really answer the real question, so she guessed she'd just have to bite. "So, if that's not what's bothering you, what is?"

At that, the hero sighed hugely and leaned back, letting his legs out from under him and allowing them to dangle off the roof. " Ugh! What isn't bothering me?" He shook his head, sighing more. There was something very youthful about that. "Problems at home, mostly. My sister's going crazy, my mom's freaking out at my.. aunt, no one notices me there and no one notices me here." He shook his head grabbing a small pebble and throwing it off the roof.

Fenris thought for a second, but the answer seemed obvious "What have you done to be noticed? I mean, obviously the family drama's going to block you out, unless you get stuck in. And to get noticed out here.. You're gonna have to do something big. Make people notice you. Otherwise, you're just some guy with a shotgun." She was sure she'd said all this before, but maybe now it would get through.

"That's the thing though, Lady. I don't know if I even want that, any more. Do I do this because I love the work, or because I can? Because it just.. gets me out of the house?" He sighed even louder, shaking his head. His mouth, the only visible part of his body, was frowning. Unhappy. "Am I running to run, or.. running away? And I can't even talk to my sister about it. She's just... doing her own thing, with her own friends." There was something about the way he said that that seemed to suggest he didn't have many friends of his own.

"Umm..." Fenris didn't really know what to say, when she asked what was wrong she didn't really expect anything like this. And now she had someone she didn't really know being so... open. She was beginning to feel a little out of her depth.

After an awkwardly long pause, the Oracle Agent spoke up. "Um, have you tried talking to any of your family about this? I mean, even if there is some crazy shit going on, they should probably take the time to listen. Mine always did..."

"I don't know.. She probably would but... She's busy. I don't want her to feel like she needs to worry about me on top of everything else. She's got enough to worry about and I'm kind of... her rock, you know? I'm the person she relies on when everything else gets all.. unsettled." He sighed softly, a boyish and sympathetic noise. "With everything that's going on now, she doesn't need to worry about me. I don't even know if she needs to worry about me. I'd rather be quiet and work it out on my own." He turned over to look at Fenris. "What about you? Your family imploding?"

There was another long pause, as Fenris struggled for words. "...I don't... No." The hero wasn't the only one sounding down, Fenris grip on the edge or the roof tightened , as she fought down the pangs of guilt and stopped herself going down that hole again. Taking a deep breath to compose herself, the Agent decided to focus on this guy's problems instead. "She's your sister. You need her, and she'll be there. Unless she's a complete bitch. So just go and talk to the woman, it'll probably help you both."

"...Probably," the hero agreed, a little reluctantly. He looked out over the small festival below, where a group of people in costume had come out with drums. The rhythm was audible, even all the way up here. A fast little beat that rose before dying down into a softer little rumble. Slower. He looked over at Fenris, took into account her body posture and added a little more warmly, "It's good advice. ...How are you, besides? I haven't seen you in a while."

Fenris studied the hero, trying to work out just how much she should say. "Good, I suppose. I managed to stop my friend getting convicted for a crime he didn't commit, and I managed to find out just how complex neurostatics are." She paused, considering just what that would mean for what she had to do. "That's going to fuck up a lot of things..."

The hero sighed again. "Harder than I know or understand. I couldn't even help with it at all." The hero made a sympathetic noises. "Are you stapling people or.. making back ups...?" There was innocent curiosity in his voice, and she couldn't see his eyes, but the heroes whole body was tight, as if he was ready to jump.

"I need to do some work on a backup, and of course it's going to be a pain in the ass!" Nothing in this world could ever be that easy, but she had to find a way. Otherwise, he would just come back, and killing him would be meaningless. "I need to find people who actually know what they're doing, so I can try and find some solution that works."

Moving his legs off the side of the building, the hero turned to face Fenris while sitting. He rested his arm on his knee. "Why not ask Itoma? They're the experts. They do all--well, almost all the back-up work in the world. They've got the monopoly on neurostatisticians." There was something about the way he said it, with a little nod of the head and pursed lips, that suggested he was quoting something.

Really? He was suggesting Itoma? A question that obvious had to be met with sarcasm, though it was fairly light hearted. "Of course! I hadn't thought of Itoma!" She sighed, staring down at the people in the street below. "If I could just go to them, then I wouldn't have a problem, would I?"

The hero rolled his eyes--not that Fenris could see it--and shook his head. He seemed unimpressed. "Lady, I don't know what the hell you are talking about. No need to get snippy. You want back-ups, and Itoma has the skills, the machines... You never mentioned this wasn't a legitimate activity. And lots of people have trouble just going to the moon." He tutted, and then sighed. It had been a hard week.

"Heh! The moon is not even a slight problem! The problem, is what to do when we get there. Everything either takes too long or is too noticable." Watching Fenris silently, the hero's face didn't change. He was almost eerily still... And he sighed, moving into a crouching position. "Why not ask Itoma?" He put his hand up before the German woman could protest. "I mean, it's a large corporation. It's far away from everything. They hold a monopoly on the most impressive machines humanity has built to understand and change the human mind"--okay, that was definitely a quote--"And no one can use them but them. Somewhere, there is a disgruntled employee who would help you for the right fees, or.. access." He shrugged, lips turning slightly downward as he looked away. "Humanity can be greedy, unhappy, vain... Apply to someone's baser natures."

Fenris just looked at her friend. He really didn't seem to be getting it. "The entire point is that Itoma doesn't know anything has happened. I approach the wrong person, and that's it. That's my chance gone." Perhaps she needed to lay it all out a bit more clearly. "I need someone who can tell me what I need to do, then I can go in and do it, and hopefully find some valuable stuff along the way. I can't just talk to some random employee and hope they hate the people who are paying them."

The hero moved on his feet, leaning forward so his weight was on the balls of his feet. He moved his hands forward to steady himself. "Always be sure when you take action. Maybe if you sniffed around a bit someone might notice you, but you should be quiet. Walk softly. If you charge in, they will get scared, but if you want something done right, it takes time." He looked a Fenris, and despite most of his face being covered, he seemed to look very.. patient, and almost.. hurt. "Don't do anything randomly. But if you don't trust in your faith to do so gently, find a list of all their ex-employees. You should be able to find a good chunk of them on a job profile sites, or maybe hack into someone in HR's email. Either way, you must tread... gently. Don't make noise. Walk without rhythm." He stared at her face, bright green eyepieces unblinking.
