A.I Advancement and Use
There are a lot of A.Is running around now and I cannot keep track of them. I also do not wish for them to let people do too many things at once. A.Is are capable of learning and growing and from now on I'll let other people keep track of it like this:
Performing tasks
An A.I can perform the equivalent of one minor action that it is programmed for per week unless it is sentient. When sentient, an A.I will follow different rules. However, medical bots can still fit more than 36 hours worth of cybernetics in a week, since the patients are the ones spending the relevant actions. A.Is can do things like run businesses and do research as a minor action, but this prevents them from doing things such as increasing business levels.
Earning XP
Earning XP that is spendable in any skill, stat or training can be done by the A.I taking a key part in a mission (e.g. combat replicants) or by being trained as described in Machines of War, page 26. Training an A.I is a major action. If you have a mainframe with an A.I module attached you can train an A.I with it and gain a +4 bonus for using a mainframe. If you train multiple A.Is in the mainframe module you must split the roll XS between them all equally and then subtract their A.I levels from that.
Increasing skills
An A.I will gradually become more skilled at its purpose through practice. If you have an A.I performing a task constantly for a week it will earn 1xp towards one relevant skill in that field. For example, if a Hornet is watching an area or a person for a full week it can gain 1xp towards stealth or observation.
If an A.I is not performing a task, but actively practising at a skill it can gain 2xp towards it in a week.
A.I level does not increase through this method, only skills.

Re: A.I Advancement and Use
If an AI is hosted in a mainframe that also hosts a research core, does the AI gain the benifit in addition to its stats?

Re: A.I Advancement and Use
Are A.I.s capable of spending their minor action to gain a training? As it stands there is no way for an A.I. to gain a training as these require major actions.

Re: A.I Advancement and Use
Does the AI module for the mainframe give any bonuses to training, or does it just allow you to get the +4 from the mainframe to the training roll?

Re: A.I Advancement and Use
In terms of the mechanics it will just be the +4 bonus. However, if you have any interesting ideas to use the module then mention it in the downtime action and it may provide additional abilities.AmetsBasamortu wrote:Does the AI module for the mainframe give any bonuses to training, or does it just allow you to get the +4 from the mainframe to the training roll?

Clarification question: Do you need neuro-programming to train an AI as a major, as it says on MoW 26, or is this an option available to all programmers?

Re: A.I Advancement and Use
It's not clear in the books. As written the downtime action appears to suggest you don't need the training to do it, although you do need the stat and skill prereqs?

Re: A.I Advancement and Use
The second paragraph reads,
A neuroprogrammer can grant an A.I. a measure of XP by running it through mimetic training regimes. Training an A.I. requires a week of downtime and an ‘Intelligence + Computers and A.I.’ roll
