Week 77: A Grand Party

Post  Hugo on Thu Oct 03, 2013 8:20 pm

The night was half over, and Hugo was having a good time. Except for a minor and--thanks to Hugo--now halted gang kerfuffle, the night was going swimmingly, with people in fine, smart clothes drinking, listening to music, eating dozens of canapes and sitting around tables or on slides, depending upon the building. The only unfortunate part of the night for Hugo was that he was so busy meeting and greeting and babysitting inebriated gangsters he hadn't had much of a time to relax.

He was now sure he'd met everyone, and he helped himself to a drink. He sipped, looking around. Everyone looked good. He was stunning too, of course, in a tailored gray suit with a matching holster for Una, but it was nice to just.. appreciate everyone else. (Pass looking good by 6.) Times like this, he missed Coraline. She was a delight at parties, funny and charismatic and good at getting people to relax. Oh well, she'd be home soon. Probably.

He finished his drink, and leaned back against the makeshift bar in the main gymnasium of the Dojo De Seoul. Huh. Maybe this was actually gonna make a profit.

While Hugo was done babysitting inebriated gangsters, somebody who met that description pretty well was lurking in the corner, trying not to be noticed. Dani had gone out and bought a nice new shiny green dress for the party, but apparently hadn't quite got the hang of her newly augmented strength since she tore it right down the left side as she was putting on. It hung together well enough to be wearable, but it didn't exactly look fashionable... or presentable, for that matter. (Botched untrained Pres+Looking Good by 6) Maybe it'd look daring, she wondered. Or perhaps it'll seem like I've just come from some action-filled adventure straight here and I can play it off as the price I paid to get out alive. But no, it just looked terrible. Fortunately for Dani, she had two methods of pretending like it hadn't happened. One was to stand in the corner and keep it out of most people's vision. The other, which she was embracing heartily, was to drink the problem away.

Stephen was out and about in the Dojo, dressed up in something that could actually constitute one's finest - his smart black suit was nothing special and certainly wouldn't draw much attention but for once, he didn't seem too out of place amongst the high-class attendees of the party [pass Looking Good on the dot]. He'd talked to a few people, had plenty to drink, and all-in-all was having a mighty fine time, even if he hadn't gotten to shoot anything in the kneecaps yet. Well, the night was young.

Presently he found that his bottle of beer was empty and made his way over to the Dojo's bar in search of another, finding not only additional alcohol but also the gracious host leaning against the counter.

"Howdy, amigo," he declared, touching his new bottle to his forehead in an approximation of a salute as he sidled over to Hugo before wrenching the bottletop off and taking a swig. "Party's goin' swell, ain't it?" he continued, turning around to survey the assembled persons in the gymnasium.

"Compadre, buddy." Hugo was only very slightly inebriated, but he'd slipped into the mix of Federale languages drunken ease. He rested a large hand on Stephen's arm."It's been pretty good. Seems to be winding down a little. I'm okay with that. No combat, a corporate conflict free evening." The nuke scanned the room, eventually focusing on poor Dani. He grinned, wider, at the mere sight of her, and looked back to Stephen. "I'm happy, you know? I just wish everyone was back from motherfuckin' Taiwan."

"Yeah, I hear ya," Stephen agreed, nodding and adopting Hugo's Spanglish. "I mean, I can't say I know the ladies so well as you do, but I still don't want to see nothin' bad happen to 'em, of course."

He took another swig of his new bottle and then nodded towards Dani. "Speakin' of the ladies, seems odd to see the new girl hidin' over in the corner like that all night! Thought she had quite a mouth on her, didn't figure her for bein' such a wallflower. S'pose it ain't her kind of shindig, I guess." It was obvious Stephen hadn't noticed the mess she'd made of her dress at all [Observation CRITICAL FAILURE]. "Poor gal drinkin' by herself. Reckon we should mosey on over and keep her company?" he asked Hugo, waving his beer around ambiguously. "Wonder if she's tried my cake yet! Shit, is there any of my cake left?"

Hugo looked at the assembled party, in fine wear, before focusing on Stephen for a moment. Poor, drunk Stephen. When he had showed up, both Hugo and Qing had taken a bite, and while it was certainly edible, it wasn't really.. a.. potluck kind of event. The diminutive and flamboyant party directer had secreted is somewhere, which Hugo was happy for. Still... "I.. think uh, everyone finished it. But let's go talk to Dani." The lie was somewhat obvious (Fail L&A by 4) but he was quick to change the subject. But the door were wrapped Dojo De Seoul gift bags; one was issued per guest. There wasn't much in them but a T-shirt and sweat pants, a few coupons, some deodorant, but it was a nice little gesture. "Let's get her one of those. Not that I don't mind seeing some skin, but..." <<Critical Equipment Failure.>> Hugo linked his arm in Stephen's and dragged him to the door, grabbing a bag, before pulling him over to the charming Dani.

"Oh, suuure, amigo," Stephen chuckled, noticing Hugo's uncertain lie but drawing entirely the wrong conclusion. "Everyone else ate the cake. Admit it, you can't resist my works of culinary perfection."

He saw Hugo's quick sign and peered more closely at their fellow agent hiding in the corner. "Shit, I see now. Alright. Say, uh," he whispered conspiratorially as Hugo whisked them over, "maybe I should just give her my jacket? Blend in a bit better than a t-shirt, cover it up easy enough, right?"

"Oh, shit, I was thinking she could be a model but.. No, yours is better." Hugo walked back around the the table, still arm and arm with Stephen, and dropped the bag back with the others. He gave an apologetic smile to the staff member at the table, and spun back around to Dani. It looked almost like a dance of heavily augmented agents, though it was.. fairly comical.

"Dinner and dancin'," Stephen laughed as they spun about, losing his balance to the inebriation only slightly. "All you need now is a shootin' range and the evenin' would be complete."

As they approached Dani in the corner, Stephen waved his bottle with his free hand in greeting. "Howdy, young miss," he declared, when they finally reached her, and leaned over into a bow, pulling the still-attached Hugo along with him. "Mus' say, you must be mighty cold in that there number," he went on, withdrawing his arm from Hugo. "Might I offer you the use of my jacket?" As he said the last, he glanced down at the ripped side of Dani's dress and then offered her a painfully unsubtle conspiratorial wink, making to remove his suit jacket.

Post  Fenris on Fri Oct 04, 2013 11:07 am

Fenris was was very uncertain when she entered the Dojo. She was late. She was really late. But she still didn't know if she was actually welcome, or even if she wanted to be here. She wove her way through the inebriated crowds towards the bar. Alcohol would definitely settle her nerves. The Oracle Agent managed to reach the bar and ordered the strongest drink they had, claiming a stool. She had been back to the same place that did her dress for her moving in party, and looking at it now, they had done another excellent job. (looking good pass by 7) Her skin and dress both looked to be a mix of snow and ice, with a pair of wolves, in a similar style to her tattoo, roamed across her body. As she knocked back her drink, Fenris considered going to find Hugo, but then thought better of it. If he wanted to talk, then he could come to her, but if he didn't, then that was fine. Despite being angry with him, she didn't want to make a scene at his grand opening, and if it turned out she wasn't supposed to be here... Well that would be awkward. It was at this moment she became very glad she had chosen to wear her dyed white hair down around her face, it meant she could actually blend into the crowd...

"Um, Fenris?  Is that you?  Mind if I join you?"  With those quite silly questions (pass Per + Obs by 2), a slightly drunk Karishma plopped herself unceremoniously down onto the stool next to her and ordered a drink.  It was bright green, slightly smoking, and had what looked like sparkling metallic flakes floating in it.  It was also quickly much lower in volume.  "Mmm, I love this stuff!  No idea what it's called, though; I just spotted one of the other guests order it and thought I have got to try that!"  Another hearty swig.  Karishma turned to Fenris and grinned a little lopsidedly.  "So, Hugo's put on a pretty damn good party, huh.  You having a good night?  By the way, I really like your outfit; it's better than I managed at least!"  She chuckled to herself as she considered her own get-up; a long black dress with a subtle and very slightly shimmering circuitry pattern that linked in smoothly to her video skin tattoos down her arms and on her neck, which faded slowly as they reached further away from the dress.  Her hair was pretty much the same as always, although with much fewer stray tufts, and her makeup was passable but it was pretty obvious that it was entirely cybernetic in origin (for all of that, pass Pres + Looking Good by 2).

"Huh? Are you making fu- Oh. Ohhh. Yeah. Thank you. V'ry gentlemanly of you..." In most situations, Stephen's wink would have been wince-inducing in how overexaggerated it was, but here it served its purpose nicely and Dani took Stephen's jacket very carefully. It may not have been the best match for her outfit, but it was something and that was great. "So... the party seems to be going well, yeah? Lots of folks around enjoying themselves, plenty of drink, I'd call that a success. Just one thing," she said, poking Stephen in the chest pointedly. "Why no cake, man?"

Han entered, dressed in a very expensive suit, that almost seemed designed to de-emphasise his over large physique. It's green and black lines were exquisite in their tailoring, and for once, Han looked comfortable enough in formal wear that he didn't look like a well clad bouncer, but actually like a high ranking businessman and multimillionaire. Pres+Looking Good pass by 4

He kept himself to the edge of the bar, and ordered a small Sake.

She shrugged. "I only just got here, so you know." Fenris turned to survey the crowd of Hugo's guests. "They seem to be happy enough, so I guess it is a good party. Oh, and hi, by the way." She swung back round to the bar, claiming another drink. It was plain to see that the snowing woman was trying to catch up, and she planned on doing so fast. "So. Did I miss anything in particular? Or was it just like this?" She sounded.. Distracted. Fenris definitely had something else on her mind, and it wasn't just the Ai Jinn who wandered a bit too close from time to time.

"Hey now," Stephen grumbled, waving his beer to waft away Dani's poking fingers, "might've been there was some premium cake goin' around the party, if someone," Stephen tilted his head and glanced pointedly at Hugo, "hadn't gone and eaten the whole thing 'fore anyone else got a chance..."

He glanced about suspiciously before leaning down to whisper, "to be honest, ain't the best cake I ever did make, you ain't missin' too much." He pulled back up to his normal height before continuing, "hell, you want a cake so much I'll make you another one! Ain't no thing, I can churn 'em out by the dozen when I'm in the zone. This place got a kitchen squirrelled away anywhere, amigo?"

Hugo only smiled a little vacantly as Stephen mentioned him eating the cake, but his expression quickly became panicked as her bromigo mentioned cooking. "Compadre, it isn't really that kind of party. Besides, the canteen only has a re-heater and a re-freezer." He licked his lips and cleared his throat, putting an arm on Dani's back. "Besides," he continued, picking up speed and confidence, "You guys should really see next door if you haven't already. The lighting in there is phenomenal, you know?"

He began to lead both of them out of the room to the elevator. He wasn't looking around the room much, and Fenris' costume change meant he hadn't noticed her at all.

"Huuuugo, we can see it any time," she complained, pouting. "Are we too embarrassing for you or something? Driving your stock value down by hanging around?"[/color]

"Aw, come on. You only saw the basic option, trust me, it can look really cool." He smiled at her, and then to a few more people who were getting off the elevator. Briefly nodding to them, he continued, "There are lots of options. Moving lights, ambient glow, mood lighting, all red, strobe lights... We got them all. Besides," he chuckled, hitting the button for the second floor. "If you haven't checked out Nuestro Juego tonight, you've only seen half the party."

Re: Week 77: A Grand Party

Post  Hugo on Sat Oct 05, 2013 7:32 pm

Hugo rolled his eyes, escorting his teammates along the hallway to the covered path that connected the dojo to the massive adult playscape. "Yes, there is another bar there--Hey Zhang!--And well, you'll see." Hugo's interruption in the middle was delivered to a younger, Ai Jinn looking man, who was looking around with some worry. He then opened the doors to reveal the Neustro Juego in all its glory.

The lighting had indeed changed so the playscape was lit like a club, with low lights and glowing railings. It looked like something out of an EI movie about the insides of computers. A bunch of people were resting on the tables to one side, but many more were lounging in the ball pit or on slides in the smart dress. While there were fewer people in here, it was quieter with only music playing faintly, and most people were much drunker. Servers scurried around, encouraging the lounging clientele to keep drinking and eating canapes. There was something nice about the juxtaposition of fine clothes and fine booze with a kid's playground. Hugo took Dani by the hand and lead her to the slide that would take her to the ground floor. "C'mon, that's pretty cool, right?"

"Holy shit, amigo. You got some serious childhood issues you're workin' out, ain'tcha?" Despite the words, Stephen was grinning at the sight of the giant playground, looking it up and down with bemusement. "Good sight lines from that balcony," he announced, pointing with his bottle, unable to stop himself from reflexively giving the structure a tactical evaluation. "Plenty of cover... sure would be fun playin' bullet tag in here, I tell you what."

"Yeah, playing around in here is great! Hugo showed me the place the other night, and... Yeah. I approve." Dani realised as she spoke that perhaps taking that sentence to its intended ending would not be very polite or convey the kind of image Hugo intended for Nuestro Juego. See, if she'd been drinking too much she wouldn't have caught that. Talk about responsible. "Bullet tage would be be good, yeah. Lots of spots to hide and shoot things. 's good."

"Yeah, yeah guys, that's the point. Fun to play on, with lots of great places to hide and hunt and stuff. We're gonna have laser nights and paint ball nights, splat rounds and mallow rounds, people can rent it out for training and parties, practical stuff, fun stuff, too. Way better than training in some warehouse." He grinned and went down the slide first, enjoying it a bit more than a grown man should, giggling a bit as he reached the bottom. He waved his friends down and steps to the side, taking a glass of something pale blue and bubbling from a passing waiter. It was glowing in the black light.
