Weeek 59: Shap & Fenris go to Whitepeak

Post  Heizhizhu on Tue Apr 30, 2013 12:04 pm

The two make an odd couple as they sit in the gently humming metal box that is transporting them up to their destination: He a short, hairless Polynesian man made of tightly compacted muscle and barely contained energy. She a tall, pale Germanic woman composed of graceful lines and quiet poise. The only apparent commonality they shared is their appreciation of body art, as both sported extensive and elaborate tattoo designs on most of their bodies though the only ones that could be seen at this time were those present on their heads and necks, suited as they are in close-fitting, bingo-wing body suits

One of commonality Shap & Fenris shared which may not be so readily obvious upon a cursory inspection is the enjoyment of adrenaline rush and extreme sports. It is in fact this shared interest that has brought them here today

"Attention sir and madam, we'll be shortly at the target location; the red light above the door will switch on when its time for you to disembark. Have an enjoyable trip and thank you for choosing to fly with us." Came the metallic announcement over the loud speaker in the cabin.

"Right you remember the plan?"Shap asked Fenris, producing a highly detailed and annotated map of the mountain they had acquired courtesy of Silvia.

"Of coarse! When we get to the top of the mountain, we jump out, and board down the mountain, no thermal, no night vision, just these." At this point she patted the small torch mounted on her shoulder, then she looked down at the map in Shaps hands. "You do realize, that's cheating right? It's more fun if you don't know what's coming!" There was a large grin plastered across her face.

"Good, good." Shap replied "This my wolfy friend is a visual aid to reinforce how the scoring system works." He explained, briefly raising the map to eye-level next to his head for emphasis. "As I missed out on your little B.A.S.E. jumping trip; I decided to incorporate it into today's grand adventure." Shap announced with a wide, toothy grin. "Outside that door is a bit more of a drop than you may have been expecting; hence the bingo-wings. The first part of the game is simple: Hit the target, which is in this instance a flare that I've had set-up near the top of the peak. How close you land to the flare determines how well you do in phase one. Phase two is what you were expecting, first one down the mountainside scores the most points, simple as. Throughout the game, additional points will be awarded for style our runs down the mountain will be recorded. I'll be doing this via U-View but as you don't that you'll have to do it the old fashioned by strapping a video-camera to your head." Shap proffered a shiny black helmet with a small camera attached to its crown.

"Did I miss anything?"

Fenris' grin somehow grew even larger, as she waved away the helmet. "No thanks, I have U-view too. But that sounds great! Though you're forgetting the most important part! How much are we betting on this?"

"that's disappointing; I spent all night screwing the camera in place." Shap looks forlornly into the camera's cold, blank lens. "Oh well," chirps Shap, unceremoniously tossing the helmet to the side "I do this for the thrill alone but if my female companion wishes to bring financial gain into this I shall put forward 500,000 credits. Do you think Shap's pirce is right? Higher? Higher? Lower? Lower?

Fenris was initially taken aback by the stupidly large bet, but then she realized that she totally had that much money. "Done. Now, how long until we get to the top?"

As if on cue the light above the blinked on. "I'd say now." is Shap's reply as stands and walks over to his snowboard, pulling on his mask before mag-clamping his right foot in-position on the board.

"I hope you don't mind if I go first?" Shap asks, clipping himself to the safety railing and shuffling into position to open the door

"Okay" With a clank and a slide the room suddenly fills with the deafening sounds of rushing air and rotor-blades.

"I'LL BE SURE TO HAVE SOME SIM-CAFF READY FOR WHEN YOU EVENTUALLY MAKE IT BACK TO THE RESORT!" Shap taunts over the cacophony before throwing himself out the copter and disappearing into the moonlit night-sky.

"HA!" After a few seconds Fenris followed Shaps example, hurling herself out into the night. " You do realize that the snow is where wolves excel right? All a spider can do is freeze."

As Fenris left the helicopter, she quickly found the flare, and as if she was born to it, she shot towards it, as aerodynamic as she could be with a board strapped to her feet. (agility athletics, Pass by 15). What makes you think that? She replied, grinning into her face mask.

Ooo, saucy. Good to know there's another commando commando on the team. 'Never in the field with 'em on!' That's our motto. Shap continues to banter as he falls with style towards the beacon.

I know this isn't fair. He thinks to himself But we never agreed it would be and she was the one who wanted to bet money on this, besides I had to learn to snowboard in two days; heck I didn't even know what snow was before we got here. Having the advantage in the brief time it takes to plummet down to the mountain wont grant me much benefit when we have to actually 'board down the mountain. I didn't even bring a torch.

Drop Suit Specialist means I don't have to roll, as long as I can see the target I can make the jump. Shap way a lot more than Fenris. Shap jumped first. Shap set this up. Therefore, unless you roll a double 1, Fenris isn't beating Shap to the beacon.

Nobody said Shap played fair

Post  Fenris on Tue Apr 30, 2013 11:44 pm

As Fenris approached the landing zone, she got the perfect angle to go straight from falling to boarding. Flicking the torch on, she immediately spotted her first opportunity for a Style bonus, as the ground to her left rose up before falling away sharply, forming a ramp. Fenris went straight for it pulling off a full 360 backflip before landing flawlessly some 40 ft below, and racing down the mountain.(Reflexs athletics, double 1, pass by 28, accounting for the crit)(agility athletics, pass by 15) WHOOO!! BEAT THAT SHAP!!!

OOC: We aren't racing each other directly, it's a timed thing. Otherwise we would have started at the same time.

You know I can't see you from all the way down here so you're essentially boasting to thin air, which isn't very stylish.

mere feet before impact Shap rights himself and performs a vertical 250 degrees spin while performing a rocket air grab; enabling him to land board first, front foot down the mountain and at the right angle that not all of his momentum from the fall was lost.

Stunt Roll: Agility+Athletics = Pass by 13

A style challenge requires witnesses, of which there are none. Unless you plan to show the 1st-person recorded footage to judges afterwards? I't also more difficult to abstract into dice rolls.

A race is a timed event though.

Fenris shot down the mountainside weaving between the trees that loomed out of the darkness, there was no sign of Shap, but they could be taking different routes down the mountain. She scanned the terrain in front of her, but could see no further opportunities to show off. (Reflexes athletics, pass by 7)

Shap's speed begins to pick up as the challenge enters stage 2, curving around a copse of ever-greens he catches some air as he 'boards over some small hillocks, this feat would be impressive itself given the pace at which he is going but are merely part of the course for this particular challenge; he'll have to do better than that and soon 'cos the half-way point is coming up!

As she headed deeper into the forest the trees became denser, and she had to slow down a little to be able to avoid them. Then a muffled bang echoed through the wood, followed by the rumbling of a small avalanche. Fenris grinned, this was about to get even more fun! (reflexes athletics, pass by 7)

wow Shap thinks to himself Fenris actually paid what the resort was asking to create an avalanche at this time, I didn't think she had the credit. If she thinks she can handle it. Shap shrugs in indifference as he continues down the mountain. As he takes the next corner The crystal clear moon shines brightly, illuminating perfectly a point on the mountain where a natural quarterpipe; not wanting to disagree with the heavenly body I know what's up there Shap accelerates into the quarterpipe riding it up to the top before busting a cross-bone method air and sliding back down the 'pipe and continuing down the slope.

Post  Fenris on Sun May 05, 2013 12:30 am

With the snow thundering down behind her, Fenris really got started. Weaving between the trees near the bottom of the mountain, she spotted a tree trunk that made a convenient ramp over a small ravine. Shooting up it, Fenris did a 540 rotation before landing on a branch on the other side, the snow streaming past beneath her, and grinding back down to the ground as the avalanche lost momentum. She was finally at the bottom! And Shap was nowhere to be seen! (reflexes athletics, pass by 13)(agility athletics, pass by 14)(84 XS in total)

OOC: the original thought was that it would double negative XS, but i doubt that will come up, so it just makes us look more awesome.

As Fenris surveys the slope from her vantage point there came a second rumbling, heralding the appearance of Shap with a smaller, more focused avalanche nipping at his heels. Maintaining the lead Shap shoots straight off a point on the slope where the mountain suddenly dropped away and, backlit by the silvery face of the moon, executes a wildcat before grappling into a nearby copse with a soft *thud* as the pursuing avalanche barrelled over the edge like Wil.E.Coyote trying to follow Road Runner off a cliff.

Sorry I'm late, picked up a straggler and didn't want it to get lost. That was fun we should do it again sometime. Now how do you take your Sim-Caff?
