Week 54: The Grand Entrance of Fenris

Mid morning a UIG squad car pulls up outside the Oracle HQ main gate. A tall woman climbs out of the back, then pauses as the turrets rise up and begin to track her. As she walks to the main building she keeps glancing uncertainly at the turrets. Once inside she seems to relax slightly, and heads down into the main facility. She heads straight for the offices, trying to find someone that she can talk to.

Parvati was rereading the medical textbooks for the umpteenth time, not that the information was really penetrating. She could fix this with her mind which unfortunately sapped the will to learn the more mundane methods and information. It also didn't help that she had the live B&S feed open for any news of the War.

With a sigh she stands, stretching carefully. She could use some coffee, not to mention calories, as she checked the time and realised that lunch time had passed entirely unnoticed. Retrieving a silver tin from the bottom draw of her desk she stepped out of her office to find the Kitchen at the end of the wall.

Outside she noted the woman in passing but it took half a moment for Parvati to realize she hadn't seen this person before. "Hello?" She asks falling back to her native tongue instinctively.

As Fenris made her way through the offices, she noticed the woman sat at a desk "finally.." she muttered to herself. Then the woman spoke. "Ah... I don't think i'm gonna understand that language... Do you speak German?"

As Parvati approaches Fenris, she notices that she her clothes and hair are very disheveled, as if she hasn't changed for several days.

"Sorry? I'm afraid..." Parvati catches herself "Is this any better?" She asks. Parvati was dressed neatly in a pale green sari and while she was not made up particularly she looks okay. "Are you new here? Are you okay?"

Fenris sighs, "You must speak English?"

Now that she is looking a bit closer, Parvati also notices that Fenris' eyes are quite red.

Parvati frowns "Wait, was that English? I'm afraid I don't speak english." she apologises. "I don't suppose you speak this?" she asks "This? though it is kind of a longshot."

She frowns as she looks the woman over considering for a few moments. "You really don't look good.. Are you an Agent? Did you get a letter from the CEO?"

"For fucks sake..", Fenris rests her head in her hand for a moment before replying "Do you speak Russian?Or Swedish?" At this point she is getting a little bit frustrated "You must understand something!"

Parvati looks confused "Sorry, I don't recognise those... though that last one sounds roughly similar to Darya... She frowns then smiles "Wait a minute waste away, What was it Pinkie used... She motions Fenris to follow her back into her office and she heads back to her computer terminal "Lets try and keep this simple for now..."

She spends a moment or two on the computer before turning the screen to let the other woman see what was written there "Pavarati is my name. You are you don't." She peers over the screen at the woman to see if there is any reaction to it.

Fenris moves round to look at the computer, and reads what is on the screen. this makes no sense... well it's better than nothing. she begins to type a reply.

As the woman read Parvati's message her brow furrowed in confusion, she typed something and after the translator did its work, the screen shows "My name is Fenris, UIG is now no need to go to the Oracle client" The woman then turns to look at her expectantly.

Parvati reads for the moment with a Frown before starting to type again. This was not as easy as she thought it would be. She'd always assumed that most translation programmes were better than this.

She turned the screen back to the other woman with a faint smile "Resistance? It's the Wolf? It's so here as a client? Or JIB works? 嗯...... In any case, you should contact the Director a statement"

well, the wolf seems to be a good sign... maybe... this could take a while "I have a new tool, where are we going? What are you doing?

"I don't know what he said, but it seems that there are worse things. The jib to take what you say? A travel agent?" she responds. After a few moments she frowns and types some more "I don't know if it was ..." she offers with an apologetic shrug.

Fenris looks at the screen sighs and shakes her head, still perplexed. After a brief moment of thought, she visibly brightens, and types.

"You have people who speak English?"

"Someone. however the majority of the agents is not here. " She responds "We do many of our work in an independent way"after a few moments she considers

"You look some use an excesses and something of their could, eat. the coffee made, you someone? " she types in before standing up, showing the silver can to Fenris "The muddle of Comoros" she types in finally.

Again Fenris looks at the screen in confusion, and after a quick glance in Parvati's direction, she begins typing again. "It does not work. The English English-speaking people here?"

Parvati closes her eyes for a moment, this wasn't getting them anywhere. She'd have to have a word with Positron or someone. Surely they could make a decent translation programme that wasn't completely idiotic.

}{"Ace, Do you have a free moment?"}{ She asks mentally as Fenris waits }{"We've got a stranger here in the HQ that only seems to speak Languages I don't know. Do you think you could translate for me? I'm pretty sure she speaks english."}{

Ace's reply was nealy instantaneous, and his thoughts seemed a lot calmer than they were last they spoke this way. }{I'm out of the city at the moment. Sorry, Guru.}{

There was a moment's pause before another reply came in }{I've had an idea. You are at HQ aren't you? Hold on a moment, I'll send S.A.M.}{

Moments after the thought was received there was motion outside the door as the adaptive camouflage painted Centaur Droid that lived in the corner of Ace's office glided into the doorway nearly silently on Anti-gravity motors. The red glow in its eyes were the only indication of the artificial consciousness within.

As the heavily armed droid entered the office, Fenris' eyes widen. She begins to back away from the desk to gain more space to move, and glares a Parvati "What the hell is this? What are you trying to pull?!"

Han, who was clad in full armour barring his helmet, poked his head around the door and spoke in casual Mandarin "Hey Vati, I'm making a noodle run between paperwork, is there anything I can... He trailed off as he saw the scene before him, with SAM moving across the corridor, Pavarti looking confused and a strange woman backing away, and shouting in English.

He responded. Ummm, hi there, can I help you? Are you a new Oracle Agent? He sighed and addressed SAM. "Hey SAM, back off would you? You're scaring the poor girl.

The Droid's voice was relatively emotionless, flat and robotic. Listening to it for a while though one got the sense that it was trying to have emotion, but that they were in some way limited in intensity.

"I Apologise Agent Ji. I did not mean to cause alarm. I am now aware that personally being heavily armed can cause anxiety outside of combat situations."

His entire body turned to Fenris, lifting an inch off the floor and rotating in place on anti-grav generators before setting down again. "I did not mean to cause alarm. I am SAM. Flight Sergeant-Major Ace Nizky's Artificial Intelligence. As there appears to be a breakdown of communication Ace has sent me to interpret, as per the request of Agent Sharma, due to him being presently unavailable." There was a brief pause. “How are you today?”

Fenris stares at the droid for a moment, still ready do dive out of the way should it turn hostile. "Fucking UIG..." she mutters under her breath, as she tries to maneuver herself to take cover behind Parvati.
"<sigh>My name is Fenris. I have been told by the UIG that i am now working for Oracle. I don't know where to go or who to talk to. This woman.. Parvati?" she turned to look at her "was trying to help me, but i have no real idea what she was saying. Also, you really need a better translator than a centaur droid."

"Yeah, I dunno why Ace though that would be appropriate. He's not exactly on mode right now. In any case, SAM, I can handle the translation from here, so we're fine."

Han shook his head. "Dunno about you, but this place is kind of...killer roboty for my taste. Lets get some lunch, theres a great place nearby and I can give you the heads up on being an Oracle Agent. Also, you know, I'm starving.

finally, someone i can talk to.. "That sounds like a great idea.. Wait, nearby? I thought Oracle agents were supposed to be rich, why would you eat anything from the Old city?"

"Keng's is convenient, tasty, relatively hygenic and most importantly, always welcoming to agents. Plus, theres not much through traffic from the rest of the city, so we get reasonable privacy. Besides, theres not a single fancy EI eatery in existance that can bring out that traditional Kowloon style like Keng can."

Han put his hands behind his head and smiled. "Never assume something is bad because its cheap. And never assume somethings without worth because it came from an old city."
