MMA: Round 2, Ace vs. Han

Post  Ace Nizky on Thu Sep 27, 2012 5:57 pm

After the previous fight between Darya and Parvati was over Ace stepped into the ring to congratulate the victor. He did not leave once they were gone.

Ace stood in the centre of the Arena waiting for a challenger he was wearing his usual fatigues. Around his waist was a new belt totally devoid of pouches and weaponry, as this was a melee competition he did not feel a holster belt was appropriate attire. Strapped to his left leg was a combat knife, just in case. A pair of dull grey knuckledusters adorned his fists, while strapped to his arms were the emitters of an AEGIS Gauntlet system.

While it would have been considerably easier for Ace to win using his cyberframe, which was perfectly acceptable in the rules, Ace felt this was unfair and decided he would rather try unarmed and relatively unarmoured against whoever his opponent turned out to be.

Han strode into battle wearing his regular armour. Strapped to each hip was a sheathed katana, one with a red hilt and one with a blue hilt. He nodded tersely to Ace, and adopted a formal fighting stance, his hand laying on the red hilted katana.

[OOC: Defense 7, Initiative 11, the first hit is mine]

Han stepped forward while drawing his Katana, bringing it to bear upon Ace. [OOC, assuming getting there means I can only attack once with the katana.]

[Rolled Agi+Close combat, AT 13 after defense, rolled 9. Damage=15 before armour.]
Han's attack sliced into Ace's melee shield and bounced off it, though it dealt a hefty chunk of damage.

Ace's combat stance was open and full of holes. It was also clearly an amateur boxer’s stance rather than a trained combatant but despite this he was able to bring his arm up enough for the blow to glance off Ace's shield. Ace didn't attack right away, instead choosing to bide his time and wait for an opening. He had never fought an opponent as skilled as Han before, but he was going to do his best to defeat him if at all possible, and at this moment his best was to wait and hope his shield held out long enough.

Han flourished the sword as it bounced off the first time and redoubled his attacks, carving a neat figure of 8 with his katana. Beneath his helmet he grinned. Nothing like a good sword fight. Han thought.

[First Attack: AT:13 (after defense) rolled 10, dealing 15 damage]
His first attack slashed backwards along the line Han had already attacked, collapsing the shield.
[Second Attack: AT:13 after defense, rolled 14, fail by one]
Sadly, however, he was unable to bring his katana around far enough in the loop to penetrate Ace's defenses, and his second strike glanced harmlessly off Ace's armour.

Ace timed his attacks for the moment Han's attacks hit. As his shield fell he swung his fists out in a flurry of blows, trying to use speed to overwhelm Han's defences. Most of the blows were wild but his strategy of moving into the sword, rather than the traditional away, paid off as two blows hit home

Han gripped his katana with both hands and let loose a might swing at Ace, stepping through with the strike.

[AT:13, roll 5, damage=14+2d4=20 Deals 8 damage after armour] His attack didn't so much slip past Ace's guard as much as batter through it. His slash crossed Ace's chest and drew blood, along the blade.

Ace might have been able to deal a lot of damage with his fists, were he attacking an unarmoured target, but it became clear quite rapidly that Han was too good to be taken down with fists. As his chest was slashed open Ace rolled to the side with the blow and came up with his knife in hand. [Free action - draw prepared weapon].

He adopted a knife fighting pose, with the knife held in front of him, and moved it from side to side while he looked for another good opportunity to slip through Han's defences.

Han slashed once more, striking with all his strength.

[AT:13 Roll 2. Critical Success Damage=14+2D4, 16 damage doubled for critical to 32. After armour, damage is 20]

He let out a kiai, emptying his lungs as he drove the weapon with purpose across Ace's chest, catching it along the slash previously left by his first strike. Within seconds, he realised what he had done, striking as he had been trained to, a killing strike that had come instinctively. Only Ace's plentiful upgrades deterred that.

Re: MMA: Round 2, Ace vs. Han

For a moment the grating sound of metal on metal rang out across the crater. The sword dug deep into Ace's flesh and struck alloy bone. In that instant Ace reevaluated his combat strategy. That singular blow would have killed most non-agents outright and Ace had barely injured Han so far. The issue was speed vs. Power. Han's combat style favoured power and both of his visible weapons were slower than Ace's. If he could stay out of the younger agent's reach he might have a chance. And if Han was playing to kill then Ace wouldn't hold back, besides the medpack would mean Han would be okey, he reasoned.

The knife darted out, not aiming to hit but to distract from the quick right jab Ace employed. As his fist rose to meet the side of Han's armour the skin back of his hand tore open to reveal the whirling molibdenum teeth of a knuckle mounted chainsaw. [AT7, roll 7 on the dot. 3 mashing.] The biting teeth tore into the armour and bit flesh before Ace tossed the knife towards Han's face to distract him while Ace attempted to withdraw. [Ref+pers-7? (I'm away from book. Could someone check that.) AT 13. Roll 11.] With 3/4 move Ace skittered away across the arena confident that Han couldn't reach him and strike before be could get away. [Base move 24]

"So it's like that huh." Han charged at Ace, raising a fist.
Using 3/4 movement speed (base move 23) and 1 rapid punch. [AT:13, roll 11, landing successfully.]

As the punch connected with Ace, there was a loud bang, as Han triggered five knuckle bombs at once. [Damage=1+5D6=23, 11 points after Armour]

[Han takes 1 point of Mashing damage]

Re: MMA: Round 2, Ace vs. Han

This was a turn that Ace was not expecting. The explosive impact destroyed a large chunk of his side, the fatigues burning away and the flesh stripped aside revealing the dented dull metal plate beneith. Ace could feel the internal organ damage from his crushed liver and partially collapsed lung. He could taste the rapidly congealing blood as it welled up into his mouth. At this point his insides were screaming at him to activate his medpack, to heal the horrific injuries but that would mean the end of the fight and Ace had not come this far only to give up at the last moment. One more blow could be the end of him.

In a few seconds Ace had run through all possible strategies:

Disarm? Han was too good.
Flee? Temporary measure, Han is bleeding but not quickly enough.
Surrender? Never.
Attack? Unlikely to work, but the only way.
Don't let him use his full strength agaist you.

His mind made up Ace spat the blood out towards Han’s face as he lunged at his fellow agent. [AT7. Rolls 10, 17.] His discoordinated strikes were easily dodged but as Han stepped to the side Ace stumbled away from him, [AT22, roll 13 to withdraw] twisting as he did so Han would have no clear shot on him as he fled and stumbling far enough away that the bleeding agent couldn’t bring all his power to bare.

"You know you could always concede. Theres no need for me to slice you into cold cuts." His tone was light, however and friendly. They both knew that neither would give up.

[Using half movement rate, I make 1 attack using my Katana, AT 13, Roll=11, Damage=2d4+7=14, reduced by armour to 2 points]

Han takes 1 point of mashing damage.

"That's true. I could." Said Ace as he opened up with another series of punches trying to bypass Han's defences. He was failing, he knew this. Han had taken relatively little damage, while Ace had major internal damage and was very close to death. Another few hits like the ones Han was dealing would spell the end for him, as would another powerful blow.

[AT 7. Rolls: 14, 4. 1 hit for 11 mashing damage before armour. Roll 13 to escape.]

Ace managed to land one more glancing blow with the chainfist, which tore a terrible wound in Han's flesh regardless, before dodging and weaving away towards the centre of the arena. One good thing for this fight, it was a great spectacle.

Han once more leapt forth and slashed at Ace. The chase was on, could Han deal enough scratches to take Ace down before the loss of blood made his IV medpack trigger automatically.
[Using half movement rate, then 1 rate 2 attack with katana. AT 13, roll 13 on the dot. Damage=8+7=15 before armour, 3 after armour]
His attack slashed at Ace's foot, a clean cut designed to sever. Let's see him run away without a foot Han thought. Sadly, the armour Ace wore managed to deflect the majority of the strikes energy, leaving only a nasty gash.
Han takes 2 points of Mashing damage.

Re: MMA: Round 2, Ace vs. Han

Although a little disorientated at the moment Ace's AI was trying it's best to regulate his Cybernetics and keep Ace alive. At the moment it was screaming at him both for being nearly dead and for constantly running away without gaining any ground. Tactical withdrawals were not working but standing his ground would almost certainly cause Ace's defeat. He could feel the many cuts as well as the collapse of his right lung, although being an Agent it did not hurt in the traditional sense. Ace had only a brief moment to consider what to do. He could try disarming Han, but he had never taken a blade away from someone proficient in using it and suspected he would get horribly cut in the attempt. This usually wouldn't phase him but he really couldn’t afford to lose any more organs right now. There was only one other option left.

Ace turned around and moved as if to roll past Han and escape, as had done several times before, but instead of moving past Han he moved into him, grapping Han around the chest and positioning himself inside Han's arm where the Katana couldn't strike him. Ace struggled against Han and tried to wrestle him to the ground. [AT10, Roll 3! Pass by 7. Rules: CRB p145]
